When Things go wrong--go right?
I was present yesterday at a luncheon when someone mentioned that a couple had broken their engagement. All of us, young women and older women, were wondering just what you are supposed to say when you hear this news. Is the answer supposed to be "I'm so sorry" or is the answer supposed to be "mazel tov"? Is this a "good" thing or a "bad" thing? Emily Post doesn't cover this in her guide to etiquette, so what do you think? What should be the response when others are told?

That's a problem most of us get around by saying "Oh."
1. Person isn't married to someone they don't want to marry
2. Person isn't married
I guess it depends which you think is worse.
