Inside and Outside: Klal Yisroel and the Outside World--part #1

Some of the postings, such as the ones on the cost of living in Klal Yisroel, deal with areas that are not limited to Klal alone but are also problems in the outside world. However, Klal Yisroel has sometimes unique concerns with these "outside" problems.

Consumerism, the push to buy and then buy some more is a general societal problem. It presents itself differently in some ways in Klal. We have added expenditures that are not the norm in the outside world: some are in addition to what is spent outside and some are simply greater than the normal spending outside.

We are also supposed to have different behavior patterns in some areas from those in the outside world. Unfortunately, we sometimes forget this or we sometimes give in to temptations that beckon everywhere.

We can't hope to solve all of society's problems through a blog. We can, though, discuss Klal Yisroel's response to some of these problems.

Except where something is truly unique to Klal, I do not mean to imply that ONLY Klal has a particular problem; my concern, however, is for "us."
