Struck Dumb

Teachers sometimes like to complain about their students; it's only fair, after all, because students spend a lot of time complaining about their teachers. And yes, sometimes, those complaints about teachers have some merit.

A student brought me a copy last Monday of a test he had just taken in one of the business classes. The test was an essay test and the essay question was: Give the positive and negative benefits of________.

I was struck dumb, figuratively, at the question; obviously the instructor was struck dumb literally. A product of our male yeshiva system no doubt. And some of you think that teaching English is such a cushy job.
