If you are looking for children's books that are a bit more contemporary than many of those on the other lists I've posted, you might want to take a look at the lists available at the Children's Book Council site. http://www.cbcbooks.org/readinglists/ Keep in mind that contemporary works may touch on subject matter that you may want to vet for your children.
